I haven't been very successful in finding a good hosting service for a sim I am starting. My main problem is I am looking for something for testing so I can work on the codes. Most hosting things I find for such things though don't work for my computer. So does anyone else have any ideas for it? Thanks, Exile |

Download a program like XAMP or WAMP or EasyPHP or use a free host like novahost.org XAMP/WAMP seems a little more beginner friendly. These programs simulate an online server/host, but live solely on your computer. It's better to download a program like these than use an online host, since you'll be able to work on it faster than waiting for internet pages to load and the files will be stored on your computer. I'd also recommend a free text editor like Notepad++ that will color code the coding for you and number the lines, so it's much easier to write for a beginner and you're not left counting lines trying to find the missing bracket on line 105. 8) The last useful software I'd recommend for a beginner would be to use an FTP program like FileZilla to mass upload/download your site once you're finished with it (or if you ever need to move it). Much easier and quicker than individually making pages and folders every time. Oh, and be sure to bookmark php.net or your language of choice's individual homepage Best of luck to you!

Once you're ready for your website to go live, I offer hosting through PixelPaige.com (hosting section under construction) starting at around $2/month (depending on how much bandwidth/space you use). Since I'm a game owner myself, I understand the need for a great host that can support your site and that has excellent uptime Good luck with your site! |
