Oh my GOD, I take it back. So yesterday one of my members found a shocking case of art theft - where a user had taken most of the dinosaurs, printed them out and traced them, and claimed that they had drawn them all by themselves. The terms of service clearly states: "Exhibited's images, text and overall content is copyrighted (c) to me, the owner of the game, & original artists. You agree not to take any picture, edit it or otherwise and pass it off as your own, unless you first have written permission from me." And let's not forget they have absolutely no right to the images anyway. After a battle ("I referenced, not traced") - though a friend did some overlays and the lines match up PERFECTLY, she took down a big folder of them, but there are still Allosaurus remaining on her gallery. I am infuriated. She's hidden all comments (a couple by me, others by other people who have noticed) and edited the description to "referenced from Exhibited-Sim.com"... UHHH WHAT. This user had an Allosaurus up and argued after I requested it taken down:
I am shocked at the gall this person has!! Oh my God. The piece in question, which is still available for all to see along with a couple of recolors, on DA: ![]() And now, an example of adult Allosaurus on the game: http://exhibited-sim.com/images/cached_images/179369.png And a baby Allosaurus: http://exhibited-sim.com/images/cached_images/141013.png I have reported every single picture to DA and nothing is being done. A bunch of my members have too. As an edit (October 24th 2011, 4 months later after realizing there were more replies >.>): I'd like to confirm that this person was never harassed, merely asked to remove the images (on each image there was copyright theft.) I even specifically asked my members not to cause any kind of flame war or harass the user should they come across the stolen art, and to just report it to DA instead. Be assured, there was nothing to brag about here and I'd rather have not had the situation at all. ![]() And regarding the "why can't she just have her own style?" comment I made, that was in reference to the MANY varying styles she had in her DA, due to stealing numerous different pieces of art. Replies: if we're still pushing the stolen artwork angle, then your own LINEART could be considered stolen art. http://www.dinosaurcollector.150m.com/papo_files/allosaurus_papo.jpg Take a long [edit] look. See the similarities? Now STOP spamming me with these comments or I report you. Edited by Kitty, Jun 7 2011, 01:54 PM.

Second reply: I'm two seconds away from reporting you BOTH for spam. The [EDIT] I'm taking down this picture, he and I put TOO MUCH EFFORT into it to let a bunch of butthurt WHINERS get it removed. Edited by Paige, Jun 7 2011, 12:52 PM.

Honestly, I'm not surprised that dA isn't doing anything. They have a reputation for being useless administrators when it comes to art theft...and just about everything else, as far as I can tell. This sort of thing happens, unfortunately. My advice is not to act "butt hurt" and just ignore it. If you've reported it, flooded her with comments, and pointed out the obvious, then I'm not sure what else there is to do besides starting an actual law suit! Let her steal and ruin any reputation she has (my guess is that it wasn't a very good one even before this). Petty thieves won't get far, especially when they steal from well-known and loved sites like yours. Oh, and how does one get the job of dA moderator? I should consider signing up; I'm very good at indiscriminately deleting all of my spam mail. I'm sure I could do the same for art theft complaints and bug reports...since that's apparently how they handle those things. Seriously, if you're going to run a huge website for artists to share their work, you're going to have freakin' responsibilities! |

dA is usually pretty good about deleting art theft in my experience. The user seems to have taken down some of the art, but if I had to guess I'd say pictures like this (and there are around half a dozen of them in their gallery, recolored) are also stolen from Exhibited.

They have more sketches up now... It's easy to tell what was traced, and what wasn't. If you look at some of their art styles, and compare them... You can SEE the difference in quality. |

I haven't seen that particular image anywhere on EX yet so I'd hasten a guess that it was stolen from elsewhere. :/ Just seen the new sketches.. Heh. Why can't she just develop her own style, you know? If that''s even her actual style (and not traced), it's not SO bad, and in a couple of years she might even be to the point where once I would have considered commissioning her. |
