1) How old are you? 22 2) Why do you feel this sounds like something for you? I'd really enjoy the chance to experience the 'back-end' of a sim. I'm passionate about developing a presence in the sim site industry, and providing an excellent consumer experience. I have a good deal of knowledge about sims (thought relatively untested), horses, coding and communication. I'd really appreciate the opportunity to get my feet wet and really experience what running a sim is like. 3) What previous experience do you have with running/moderating a site? I have moderated multiple forum rps, run 'breedables' threads on a variety of forums, developed genetics systems for a couple of sims that never quite opened and briefly moderated a small pet site some years ago. 4) Do you have any coding experience? If so what? Yes, I do. I have a post secondary certificate in web design, I'm learning PHP, mySQL and jQuery. I already have a strong footing in HTML, XHTML and CSS. 5) Name one thing you would like to see in a Horse Sim? Genetics. I simply adore genetics, and for me they can really make or break a game. 6) If you were to pick a Mod Team, what would you look for? How would you run it? My primary requirement would be that moderators have to be active members in the community. How could one expect to moderate and police people that they don't mingle with? Secondly, mature behavior is crucial. A mod needs to able to rise above the squabble, look at things from all sides and make clear, mature, logical decisions. Thirdly, excellent communication. Being articulate and using straight forward language can make internet problem solving so much easier. Finally, a sense of humor. If you can't take the bad with the good and let the stress of an internet game overwhelm you you should not be on a mod team. I'd 'cast' my mod team during a closed alpha testing phase. Depending on the community structure I would either post an open application and review all eligible applicants, or I would contact individuals and invite them to apply. I'd much prefer the first method, as no one would feel any 'pressure' to agree and comply. 7) How much time would you commit to the site? A great deal. I am a work-from-home contractor. I spend my time writing on my computer. I do occasionally take business trips, but I am never without my computer. My hours can be odd, as I work with clients all over the world. I'd see this as a benefit, really. I can run little events in all sorts of time zones. ![]() 8) What do you feel you could bring to make this site successful? Passion, interest and drive. I'm a self motivator, I don't settle for good enough. I'd want to create a really great experience for site users and a great, inclusive community. I'm a mature adult with a stable job, I'm not going to up and disappear. I have a really bizarre base of background knowledge, but I think much of it would benefit a sim. So, thanks so much for considering me! |

Oh, I hope you're still accepting applications for this, Avalon! 1) How old are you? 21. 2) Why do you feel this sounds like something for you? I have been playing horse sims for around 10 years (wow, I suddenly feel old!) and I have always thought it would be awesome to run my own game. I have dabbled around in a lot of games so I have pretty clear ideas of things that work well and things that don't, and I have also mapped out my own ideas. However, owning a sim has never been an option for me financially. I have moderated for other games but it's just not quite the same. I feel that this would be an excellent opportunity for me to learn the inner-workings of game operation beyond just moderating. Also, I have 15+ years of horse experience and while I don't pretend to be an expert by any means, I have a fair amount of knowledge to put to use. 3) What previous experience do you have with running/moderating a site? I co-owned a non-automated game called Stablemates for a couple years, although I realize it's probably considerably different from operating a large-scale, automated game. I served as a moderator for Equintium for 3+ years, One-Stride for about one year, and I'm currently a moderator for Eqcetera, which is in alpha testing. I have also alpha tested for quite a few games, if that counts, including Spiffy Horse, One-Stride, Equine-Craze and Eqcetera. 4) Do you have any coding experience? If so what? I used to be really good with HTML and CSS but I'm a little rusty as I haven't really put those skills to use recently. I have no PHP experience but have always wanted to learn so maybe this project could motivate me to finally learn something. (And it is one of my New Year's resolutions to learn a new skill lol!) 5) Name one thing you would like to see in a Horse Sim? Just one thing?! I don't think I can pick just one, so I will go with my top three. 1) Realism - this includes realistic color genetics, not allowing Draft Horses to be high-level show jumpers, etc. 2) A friendly, active community. 3) A showing/competition system that is not so simple that it's boring, but not so difficult or time-consuming that the average player has trouble accomplishing anything (most games I've played fall on one end or the other of that spectrum). 6) If you were to pick a Mod Team, what would you look for? How would you run it? In order to select my initial mod team, I would probably hand-pick a few players who seemed qualified and ask them a few questions to see if they would definitely be a good fit. (Once the game was better established, when looking for new mods in the future, I might have open applications and then let the current mods help me decide which applicants would make nice additions to the mod team.) When determining who to select as mods, I would look for players who are active and who seem as though they would have good working knowledge of the game. I would look for people who treat other players respectfully on the message boards and who are helpful to their fellow players. It is also important to me that they use decent spelling and grammar. I don't expect perfection but to me, using decent spelling and grammar is a sign of maturity and obviously maturity is an important quality in someone who is going to be given authority over others. I can't take anyone seriously if they type like this: "y u n0 lik mee??!1" or clearly make no effort to talk like an intelligent human being. Creativity would be another useful trait for a potential mod to have because it means that she (or he!) would likely have good ideas to contribute. Like most games, I would have a forum where myself and the nods could discuss game-related topics. I would give the mods a good amount of freedom. Basically, I would expect them to be able to handle small issues on their own, but if major issues with a certain player came up, I would expect them to consult with myself and the other mods (either by private messages or using the mod forum) regarding how to deal with the issue. Any moderators caught abusing their power would be immediately removed from the mod team. 7) How much time would you commit to the site? If I'm being totally honest, it would vary. I'm a college student, I work full-time and I have real horses to take care of. However, at the bare minimum, I would be able to log on at least twice a day. I have more free time on the weekends than during the week, as do most others I'm sure. 8) What do you feel you could bring to make this site successful? As I mentioned before, I have 10 years of sim experience and over 15 years of horse experience. I also have ideas stockpiled for a game that I would be willing to share with you to contribute to the development of this game. Some of my ideas are just slightly reworked versions of typical game features but some of them are more unique. |

1) How old are you? 22 2) Why do you feel this sounds like something for you? I've been a long time member of many sims and just about 80 to 90% of them have been horse sims. I've thought of running one but with no to little codding knowledge in php, I haven't bothered to try and make one. I just didn't know where to start. I've moderated for a sim and loved being involved with the players and helping those who need it. So I thought I would finally attempt at running one when the oppertunity arose. 3) What previous experience do you have with running/moderating a site? I've moderated for one sim before. Not much about running one but I am very willing to learn and hope you can give me the chance to prove myself. After all, you never know how great a person can be till you give them a shot. Other wise no one can gain experience. So maybe someone who has been on the player side most of the time can help a sim become greater than others. 4) Do you have any coding experience? If so what? I have basic knowledge of html and css. I'm willing to learn all other coding to help the site. Point me the right way, suggest a website or book for me to read, ect and I will do so. Codding has always caught my interest but haven't really had any one to ask on how things work or what they do. Most just want you to post something specific and most of my questions didn't really have a certain point, so well...I didn't bother. 5) Name one thing you would like to see in a Horse Sim? There are many but one sim I liked that really caught my eye was how the breeding worked. Not the ones that go by points, maybe this one did, but to where the genetics go to the foal. Not just color or size but the potential of the parents and the talent passed onto the foal itself. A good horse producing a good or higher foal. A bad horse producing the same kind or maybe improved with the right breeding. 6) If you were to pick a Mod Team, what would you look for? How would you run it? I'd first sit back and see who became most active and stayed active. I know people have lives so they wont be on all the time. Active, forum friendly, and those who help others who are completely lost. I'm not looking for the perfect of the perfect, after all no one can be perfect. The ones who seem to have passion for what they do and love helping those in need. They are not in it to be a moderator but there for the players and love helping those in need. I would want someone who wont choose sides even if they have a friend who is part of the conflict that they must make a decision on. After I know who I'd like, I'd check strengths and put different people to Mod different aspects of the site. Maybe some to watch different parts of the forum, another to check images and pages for any inappropriate names or content, and the like. I may have them suggest to where they would like to go and either give them a small test or a trial period to see how well they handle their temporary position. Abuse of their abilities will not be tolerated. This means being rude to players, trying to get money from others, threatening players to listen to them, and the like. No one wants Mods who go against them in every possible way. No second chances unless there is an excuse that is reasonable. I can go further into this if need be. 7) How much time would you commit to the site? I'm a college student for Animation and at full-time. I currently don't have a job. So I can check up on in between my classes that I have twice a week, when I take breaks from homework, and my basic free time that is alot at the moment. I can give warnings when I have a ton of homework, when midterms hit, and finals. I like to notify my Mods or Admin if I am going anywhere that might take a lot of time. Other than that, I have plenty of time but I'm not going to say all day of all week. That is kinda impossible for most people. XD 8) What do you feel you could bring to make this site successful? Being a long time player of sims I know what has been used alot and have many suggestions I can offer up to the table. I love horses and not owning them, I know what most players would like to be able to do to kind of mimic that experience those lucky people have that own their own horse. Not to mention I am willing to learn coding to help the site in the future and also I'm an Artist. If money becomes tight, I can help the site for free if need be. Helps my portfolio. I also have a bit of an imagination so I can think of what younger people want and also have a mature side for the players of around my age and older. |

1) How old are you? (can be roughly for the age concerned..lol)I am 19 turning 20 in October. 2) Why do you feel this sounds like something for you?I love horses and it is a chance to be apart of what sounds like an interesting sim. 3) What previous experience do you have with running/moderating a site?I am an experinced moderator with just a little over a year as a moderator on Eagle Valley Sim and I was head moderator of a writing website called Willow Pens which is no longer. 4) Do you have any coding experience? If so what?My coding is very basic right now with HTML and CSS but I am learning more. 5) Name one thing you would like to see in a Horse Sim?Originality is a big thing for me with any sim. From what I have seen most horse sims are roughly the same. Something new would be a treat. 6) If you were to pick a Mod Team, what would you look for? How would you run it?I would do an application process. The questionnaire would have scenaio questions of moderating and there would be questions about why they want to be a mod and what they think they could add to the team. Then based on the answers judge depending on who has the potential to be a moderator. They would then go through a training process to be trained according to the moderating system of the sites rules and guidlines and how to handle certain situations. 7) How much time would you commit to the site?I am online everyday so I could commit full-time and would be online most of the day since my actual job requires me to be on a computer. 8) What do you feel you could bring to make this site successful?Time and effort, it is one of the main keys to having a successful sim. Without it sims go no where. Edited by E.J., Feb 15 2012, 10:05 AM.
