After a long time of debating whether to announce this, since life likes to sidetrack me; I'm officially announcing the first progress step of Fortis Avis. An upcoming fantasy-esque bird simulation.

Simple FAQs
What is Fortis Avis?
Without giving away too much, Fortis Avis is a bird sim. It has breeding like most sims out there do, however it also has a mystical world full of mages, warriors, and rogues. There are clans to join, spells to cast, and battles to be won!

What does Fortis Avis mean?
Fortis Avis is latin for Strong or Brave bird.

When will you be making a forum?
I'll create a pre-forum once I've found a steady programmer and feel comfortable with the progress. I just don't want to let anyone down.

:) So let's bring it on~

good luck getting a good coder as we're a rare breed and rarely do things that we're not interested in. We tend to want to do things our way.

So, it's not another horse sim, no horse sim coder will be interested in, but there are others :)

Good luck with this project :) I think it's a bit early to announce, without coder, or a preregistered site or artwork :>

As I've already found out, UnknownHero. xD

Out of curiosity, why are there so many horse sims, along with horse sim coders?
Thanks, though. At this moment I am having a layout worked on, art, etc. So I'm hoping by the end of this week it'll seem a little more put together. :3

the usual supply and demand comes in. How many want ponies and actually get one? not many. How many want dogs and get a dog? Alot more than ponies. What does one do if one can not get a pony? Find friends who have one or play a horse sim.

So if you played a dog sims and you always wanted a dog and then you finally got one. Do you still play the dog sim? No. Why? because you have the real thing and don't need to play a sim. And theres plenty of dog people around the area too. Not to mention free puppies who can resist?

Horse sims are basically filling a demand that can't be met with horses having much higher upkeep costs and care than other animals. OF course there is also the money too, like a $50k dressage horse that i heard about once, buy a car, get married and honeymoon and full years rent with that amount or down payment

That actually makes a lot of sense. :) I myself, could say I'm indifferent to horses, however I'd love to learn to ride.

This isn't true for everyone. I've got four dogs and I still play a dog sim, and run one myself. I know of plenty of other people that have the real thing and still play horse or dog sims.

I think what you're saying is probably true if you're talking about kids. They want a horsie, they can't have one but they a play a sim until daddy buys a pony, then they don't have any more free time or attention to split between sim and real horse.

This is often not the case with adults.

Zei, the game sounds unique, there's not any bird sims that I know of. I'm interested to see how it turns out.

Hmm...please don't feel discouraged at Hero's comment. There are plenty of programmers who want business and would love to code for USD and make you happy with their product, regardless of what species their programming the game for.

It's all code, so I'm not sure why it matters what kind of species the sim features anyway. A smart coder would take all jobs, broadening their skills, so that they could land the 3k USD job and get their name out there as a desirable, capable programmer.

Like in my case. ;)

Also, I would not mind dropping you a name of a good programmer who would love to do all sorts of interesting work and would love to do it the way you'd like to. However, I'd make sure you're ready to start the programming process before contacting since they are pretty busy with projects right now. PM me.

I've read more about this game, and quite honestly, I don't like birds very much.
The breakdown of the sim really sounds interesting though. I can't wait to try it.
I also have to agree with Zorte:
"It's all code, so I'm not sure why it matters what kind of species the sim features anyway. A smart coder would take all jobs, broadening their skills, so that they could land the 3k USD job and get their name out there as a desirable, capable programmer."
A professional doesn't draw that sort of line and say, "No, I'm going to reject a decent amount of money simply because I don't like the species." Having more knowledge of the species, perhaps, would help a programmer; although, I don't see it being the case with this game really.

---

I also have horses, but I love a good horse sim.
I just don't think it's been created yet. They're all very similar, they don't really differentiate from each other, when they really could.

Trying to not derail the topic too much buutt horse sims have plenty of room for innovation and growth. In fact what I'm working on I wouldn't call it a horse sim. In my words it is more of a 2d multiplayer survival rpg with horses but on the web that makes it a "horse sim" even if it lacks some features of one. Can players with don't bother with horses play it? Yes they can and they'll be supported instead of as a side feature. Think of using horses to haul your goods to the market because you're playing a merchant.

Does that sound like a horse sim to you? Its not it at all but I'm having to stick with the label for now. The greater market would be getting players not so interested in horses to play it and enjoy it without sacrificing the original appeal of horses. Thats what I think every pet/animal sim should think about as when HTML 5 rolls around potentially letting sims do alot more than what they can do now. A just a pet site is so limited and boring.
